Article history: Received 9 November 2015 Received in revised form 1 February 2016 Accepted 5 February 2016 Available online 18 February 2016 In three samples of Christian undergraduate students (n=43, n=115, n=73), we investigated the relative influence of Christian religious identification and intergroup disgust sensitivity (ITG-DS; an affect-laden individual difference variable reflecting reactivity to disgust and revulsion reactions toward outgroups) on several religious variables: Perceived threat of religious outgroups, attitudes toward faith-based schooling, intercultural child adoption, banning of religious symbols, and Islamophobia. Results revealed that religious identification and ITG-DS are both relevant to interfaith prejudices, but in different ways. With respect to unique predictive effects, ITG-DS emerged as the stronger andmore consistent predictor.Meta-analytic integration confirmed that ITG-DS, but not religious identification, robustly predicts Islamophobia. Implications for understanding correlates of religious outgroup prejudices are considered. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The Mediational Roles of Law of Contagion and Threat Estimations in the Relation Between Disgust and Contamination-Based OCD Symptoms
Goal: The law of contagion is one of the sympathetic magic principals and is a cognitive distortion related with disgust. To explain how and with which mechanism, disgust can lead to contamination-OCD symptoms, the present study supposes that the emotion of disgust can activate the law of contagion which in turn may motivate threat estimations that finally, results in OCD symptoms. Method: Thi...
متن کاملDisgust and Contamination: A Cross-National Comparison of Ghana and the United States
The emotion of disgust, with feelings of revulsion and behavioral withdrawal, make it a prime emotion to aid in the avoidance of sources of contamination, including sources of potential infectious disease. We tested the theory that living in a region with a historically high prevalence of infectious diseases would promote higher levels of disgust and contamination sensitivity as a protective me...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Moderating Role of Perceived Vulnerability to Infectious Diseases Regarding the Relationship between Disgust and Fear of Contamination
Background and Objective: Several studies revealed that disgust as an emotional response underlies the contamination fears in Contamination Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Other studies supported the role of cognitions related to contagion and disease in contamination OCD. The present study aimed to integrate these two lines of evidence. To this end, regarding the concept of the behavioral...
متن کاملDifferential habituation of fear and disgust during repeated exposure to threat-relevant stimuli in contamination-based OCD: an analogue study.
In the present study, participants (N=20) displaying marked contamination concerns were provided 30 min of repeated in vivo exposure to threat-relevant stimuli (cleaning a 'dirty' bed pan), during which time their fear and disgust levels were repeatedly assessed. Results indicated that repeated exposure led to a significant decline in fear but not disgust. The observed decline in fear remained ...
متن کاملDisgust domains in the prediction of contamination fear.
Previous research has shown a relationship between the emotion of disgust and the fear of contamination. Heightened sensitivity to disgust and increased concerns over contamination has been observed in various disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and specific phobias. However, there is a paucity of research identifying the specific domains of disgust that contribute to contami...
